In response to the demand for easily recyclable mono-material packaging, Paccor (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.paccor.com) has introduced cups made of foamed polypropylene that allows weight reduction – depending on the size – of up to 15%, compared to the non-foamed version. The cups, for which an existing extrusion line was converted at its Hungarian production plant in Szombathely, are available in white or other colour variants.

Another mono-material solution that is recyclable is thecompany’s PP cup with a sleeve made of OPP film. With this one, the otherwise necessary separation of the printed sleeve can be omitted in recycling material streams. “This new cup enables significant sustainability improvements compared to those with sleeves made of oriented polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride,” said Paccor CCO Nicolas Lorenz. The company sees possible applications for dairy products or chilled and mixed coffee drinks.

There have also been further developments in the German firm’s “DuoSmart” cups – plastic containers decorated with a printed cardboard sleeve. In addition to PP and PET, the basic body can now also be made of foamed PP or recycled PET.
