US glass fibre reinforcements manufacturer Owens Corning (OC, Toledo, Ohio; www.owenscorning.com) has opened a new, 5,500 m2 Fabrics Excellence Centre in Zele / Belgium, where it will partner with clients to develop, design, test and scale-up next generation multi-axial reinforcing fabrics. The centre also houses a laboratory for testing new fabric technologies in infusion moulding and other closed-mold processes.
At the end of last year, OC had announced a doubling of capacity at its glass fibre knitting plant in Rio Claro / Brazil. This is the third expansion at the plant, founded in 2006, although OC did not clarify exact nameplate capacity. Output of the Rio Claro facility is destined mainly for Brazil’s growing wind energy market.
