Novosystems Farben und Additive GmbH (D-21217 Seevetal; www.novosystems.de) has developed a new process for the production of a “transparently coloured” PC compound that is unaffected by elevated temperatures. The material is to be marketed under the name “Novocoat” and is produced using an innovative coating process. The surface of the individual granules is coated by spraying with the desired colour.

The new material is almost indistinguishable from a conventional compound, both with regard to its application properties and as far as its consistency is concerned, says the company. Because masterbatch extrusion is dispensed with completely, heat damage in the form of specks, for instance, is avoided. The customer can therefore be absolutely certain of receiving specified material coloured in the same quality. The reasonably priced material is available in flexible batch sizes of between 100 kg and 20 t.

Novosystems regards itself as “Germany´s leading manufacturer and reliable supplier of high-grade, environmentally friendly liquid dyes for the plastics processing industry.” The Novocolor colours are particularly suitable for in-house colouring by the converter. Instead of an addition of 8% masterbatch, no more than 0.05 to 0.14% of the liquid dyes is needed to obtain the same result, claims the company. Another advantage, it says, is the possibility of quick colour change. Novocolor can be used in individually tailored colour blends for all thermoplastics.
