Fully recyclable BOPE film with Surpass resin / Industry partnerships bring film to market
Canadian PE supplier Nova Chemicals (Calgary, Alberta; www.novachemicals.com) claims to have made the production of biaxially oriented high-density polyethylene (BOPE-HD) film on commercial tenter frame lines possible with its Surpass TX150-A resin, which was launched in 2020.

Strategic relationships were reportedly formed between biaxial film manufacturers and Nova Chemicals to deliver the BOPE-HD films to market. The collaborators include Inteplast (Lolita, Texas, USA; www.inteplast.com), JK Materials (Seoul; www.jkmaterials.co.kr/en), Oben Group (Quito, Ecuador; www.obengroup.com/en), and Polivouga (Albergaria-a-Velha, Portugal; www.polivouga.pt).

BOPE-HD film is a fully recyclable alternative to traditional, non-recyclable, mixed material films for flexible packaging. Its applications include meat and poultry, cheese, seafood, snack food, carton liners, baked goods, fresh produce, frozen foods, and deli bags.
The Canadian chemicals and plastics producer has been working with German film equipment manufacturer Brückner Maschinenbau (Siegsdorf; www.brueckner.com) to accelerate the film’s development and commercialisation. Brückner has sold 18 BOPE/BOPP hybrid lines worldwide, with nine lines already in operation. Utilising one of the Brückner lines currently is film manufacturer Polivouga.
