Canadian LDPE line restarts after modernisation / Returning to the LDPE market
On 17 January 2013, Nova Chemicals (Calgary, Alberta / Canada; www.novachemicals.com) announced that it had restored its LDPE line in Moore, Ontario / Canada to full commercial operation. The facility had been taken off stream in late 2011 following an incident, and has since been equipped with a new and improved reactor.
According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net), the LDPE facility has a nameplate capacity of 180,000 t/y. It is the only LDPE line operated by Nova, which also runs two HD/LLDPE swing plants as well as an HDPE facility. “We are pleased to have our LDPE facility fully restored, allowing us to return to the LDPE market,” said Chris Bezaire, senior vice president Polyethylene at the company. The site’s recommissioning is in line with “NOVA 2020”, the company’s plan to capitalise on North American feedstocks for PE production.
