NOVAMONT AND NOVARESE ZUCCHERI
Partnership develops biodegradable sugar sachet
Novamont (Novara / Italy; www.novamont.com) and sugar producer Novarese Zuccheri (Casalbeltrame, Novara / Italy; www.novaresezuccheri.com) have collaborated on the development of a biodegradable and compostable sugar sachet manufactured in Novamont’s biodegradable and compostable bioplastic “Mater-Bi” (see Plasteurope.com of 26.11.2009).
The new product joins the range of catering solutions available in the material, including cutlery, plates and cups. The sachets can be printed and use a paper extrusion coated with a special grade of “Mater-Bi”. The laminate creates a barrier against gases and fats and has high thermal resistance. The sachets offer the same performance characteristics as traditional packaging but can be disposed of together with organic refuse.
