High-grade flame retardants and fire protection additives from China will in future all be marketed under one name by the distributor Nordmann, Rassmann GmbH & Co (NRC, PO Box 110893, D-20408 Hamburg), namely “Nord-Min”. Last year, together with its Chinese partner Minmetals, NRC opened an office in Beijing. Nord-Min 250 and Nord-Min TEP are the first products from this joint venture to be launched on the European market. Nord-Min 250 is an innovative fire-protection additive for natural and expandable graphite which stifles any fire that should break out. At approx. 200 °C, the compounds in the layer lattice are broken down and the material expands to around 250 times its original volume. The expansion of the graphite reaches its maximum at about 900 °C. The additive is used in polyurethane foams, sealing compounds for joints in buildings, plastics and fireproof sleeves for insulating pipes.

Nord-Min TEP (triethyl phosphate) is a halogen-free aliphatic flame retardant with a relatively high phosphorus content of 17%. Apart from its flame-retardant properties, the product also significantly reduces the viscosity of high-viscosity polymers or highly filled unsaturated polyester.
