NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL
New packaging plant in Poland / Expansion in China / Global cooperation with Henkel
Nordenia International AG (HQ: Airport Center am FMO, D-48268 Greven), is still set for global expansion. On 26 November, the new film and packaging plant is being officially opened at KNU Polska (Dopiewo / Poznan). This will then constitute a second production location in Eastern Europe, alongside Budapest. Nordenia is also pursuing strategic expansion plans in South East Asia, focusing primarily on PR China.
During a journalists´ trip to China in mid-October, the Nordenia Board emphasised the importance of the Asian markets for the company´s further expansion. Precisely as a producer of packaging, among other things, Nordenia is compelled to follow the international brand article companies into the different regions, since they require primarily globally-operating suppliers. Peter Mager, on the Board at Nordenia, announced a second commitment in China in this respect, in the framework of the company´s cooperation with the Chinese Chengdao Group. This involves a holding in the brand-new packaging factory, Zhongshan Dafu Plastic Packaging Co. Ltd., in the vicinity of Hong Kong. Apart from this, Nordenia Asia Ltd., Hong Kong, is looking for partners for other Asian markets too.
Danor Printing Packaging Co. Ltd. (Dallan, PR China), in which Nordenia has a 50% holding, has been producing PE film and flexible packaging (flexoprinting) since Summer 1997. According to Ralph Landwehr of the Nordenia Board, this company has now overcome its starting-up difficulties and, in October, operated in the black for the first time. Sales are expected to reach DM 25m in 1998. Danor has an annual production capacity of 16,000 t and, with its current facilities, would be able to achieve sales in the region of DEM 60m. Three-layer film is produced on an extrusion plant from Windmöller & Hölscher and monofilm on plants from Bielloni, Italy.
The press trip also included a visit to the Sino-German joint venture, Tianjin Henkel Detergents, Tianjin, where Henkel produces washing powder for the Chinese market. During a Henkel presentation, emphasis was placed on the partnership engaged in by Henkel and Nordenia in development and internationalisation, starting with packaging for washing powders and industrial films. – To be continued.
