US polyolefin giant LyondellBasell (LYB, Houston, Texas; www.lyondellbasell.com) and Nexus Circular (Atlanta, Georgia; www.nexuscircular.com) have signed a long-term contract to supply LyondellBasell with around 24,000 t/y of recycled feedstock from Nexus’ new advanced reclaim facility, the location of which has not yet been disclosed.
The facility – with construction planned for 2023 – is to convert mixed plastics waste into the recycled feedstock that LyondellBasell will use at its Channelview, Texas, facility to produce new plastics marketed under the CirculenRevive brand. As the US recycler told Plasteurope.com, “Nexus yields are >80%, so the required waste processing capacity is approximately 29,000 mn t/y for this contract for LyondellBasell.”
The deal is in keeping with LyondellBasell’s circularity goals, which seeks to produce and market 2 mn t/y of renewable-based and recycled polymers by 2030.
Nexus converts landfill-bound plastics into circular feedstocks for the production of sustainable virgin plastics used in packaging and other applications. Since 2018, the company has been supplying commercial volumes of ISCC (Cologne, Germany; www.iscc-system.org) Plus-certified circular materials.

Nexus separately said it has signed a long-term commercial agreement with Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem, The Woodlands, Texas; www.cpchem.com) for the annual supply of a “significant” volume of circular liquid feedstock from an advanced recycling facility. The agreement further strengthens CPChem’s relationship with Nexus for advanced recycled plastic feedstock to produce Marlex Anew circular polyethylene. The US recycler has been supplying CPChem for over two years with ISSC Plus-certified materials.
In December 2021, Six Pines Investments, a wholly owned sustainable investment subsidiary of CPChem, made a “meaningful” investment in Nexus to expand production at the Atlanta facility. CPChem says it is targeting an annual production volume of 1 bn pounds (453.5 mn kg) of Marlex Anew circular PE by 2030.
