US polyolefins giant LyondellBasell (LYB, Houston, Texas; www.lyondellbasell.com) recently joined the NextLoopp (London; www.nextloopp.com) initiative that brings together a global network of firms and researchers looking to make food-grade packaging from recycled post-consumer polypropylene packaging.
The initiative, launched in October 2020 by environmental consultancy Nextek (London; www.nextek.org) uses a combination of sorting and decontamination technologies to separate food grade PP from other waste materials to ensure compliance with food grade standards.
Nextek recently started production trials of food-grade compliant recycled PP, making more than 60 products from NextLoopp’s four grades of PPristine food compliant resins and INRT rPP packaging grade resins (see Plasteurope.com of 30.06.2022).
