Cromex to distribute “Ingeo” PLA in Brazil
PLA producer NatureWorks (Minnetonka, Minnesota / USA; www.natureworksllc.com) has selected Cromex (São Paulo / Brazil; www.cromex.com.br) as distributor of its bio-based “Ingeo” plastics in Brazil. NatureWorks said Cromex will bring the Ingeo PLA products to its broad customer base of thermoformers, film extruders and injection moulders. Cromex, which is a manufacturer of masterbatches and additives and a distributor of thermoplastic resins, will also provide technical support to converters.
"Our collaboration with NatureWorks now gives converters and brand owners in Brazil the opportunity to develop a full range of innovative products with a reduced carbon footprint," said Celso Ferraz, distribution director for Cromex. According to NatureWorks, the manufacture of Ingeo can result in 60% less greenhouse gas emissions and requires 48% less energy compared with other plastics such as PET.
Ingeo plastics are used in applications such as food service products and rigid and film-based packaging. Ingeo food service items, including cups and utensils, are typically biodegradable in industrial composting facilities.
