Two new in-plant blow moulding dairy units / GBP 17m investment / New projects sought
Following the completion of two installations valued at GBP 17m for the UK dairy industry, Nampak Plastics Europe (GB-Newport Pagnell MK16 9QJ; www.plysu.com) is looking for further in-plant, blow moulding projects. The two recent hole-in-the-wall projects for leading milk supplier Dairy Crest required the installation of eight production cells at a site in Severnside, Gloucestershire, and the doubling of capacity, from four manufacturing cells to eight, at a second Dairy Crest plant in Chadwell Heath, Essex. Both installations are based on Uniloy (www.uniloy.com) blow moulding machines and use HDPE from a BP-Solvay (www.bp.com and www.solvay.com) venture supplying grades designed for pasteurised, refrigerated milk in the UK and UHT milk in mainland Europe.
Commenting on the successful completion of the installations for Dairy Crest, which means South African-owned Nampak now has three in-plant operations in the UK dairy sector, marketing director Jon Sweet said: “We have become very experienced in designing, developing and running in-plants to a very high standard, and as a business are committed to growing this format further in different product sectors and wider geographic markets.” In addition to the in-plant factories, Nampak has three UK satellite operations supplying blow moulded bottles to as many as 70 smaller dairy customers.
