Plot acquired in Corpus Christi for new PET and PTA mega plant
More than a year after first having zoomed in on Corpus Christi, Texas / USA as the location for its new PET and PTA production site (see Plasteurope.com of 13.07.2011), Gruppo Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G, Tortona / Italy; www.gruppomg.com) announced that it has purchased the necessary land from philanthropic organisation The Robert Driscoll and Julia Driscoll and Robert Driscoll Jr. Foundation.
Located on the northern side of the Viola Channel near the port, the site is planned to turn out 1m t/y of PET as well as 1.2m t/y of PTA once operational. “The synergies of the location, adding to the unmatched size and integration efficiency of the plant, will further remove logistic cost, making our operation by far the world lowest cost,” said Marco Ghisolfi, head of M&G’s Polymers business unit.
The facility, which will employ the same technology as M&G’s plant in Suape / Brazil, will generate about 250 new jobs. In addition, the group foresees another 700 indirect positions as well as up to 3,000 construction-related jobs.
