Dutch plastics recycling group Morssinkhof Rymoplast (Lichtenvoorde; www.morssinkhofplastics.nl) has announced plans to build a recycling plant in Ecopark De Wierde, Heerenveen / The Netherlands, adjacent to the plastics sorting plant being built by public waste companies Omrin, HVC and Midwaste.
The recycling plant will have the capacity to process post-consumer PP and HDPE plastics waste from 3m Dutch households into secondary raw materials for high-end applications. Construction is expected to start soon, with the facility scheduled to begin operations during 2019. The sorting plant is anticipated to start up this summer.
Along with processing the waste from the sorting plant, Morssinkhof Rymoplast will also buy comparable plastic flows from other Dutch and foreign collection systems. The company said that when the recycling plant is in full operation, it could save an additional 20,000 t/y of CO2. Eric Morssinkhof, CEO of the Dutch recycling company, said investing in a facility next door to the sorting plant will be a “unique set-up to close the loops.”
Home furniture and consumer goods retailer Ikea (Delft / The Netherlands; www.ikea.com) took a 15% stake in Morssinkhof Rymoplast in 2017 – see Plasteurope.com of 14.02.2017. It is part of the furniture giant's EUR 1 bn plan to have a long-term supply of sustainable materials.
