Mono-material PP packaging developed with Sweden's Skånemejerier
South African packaging and paper manufacturer Mondi (Johannesburg; www.mondigroup.com) has collaborated with leading Swedish dairy company Skånemejerier (Malmö; www.skanemejerier.com) to create a mono-material polypropylene-based packaging solution, which the companies claim has been designed for recycling.

Skånemejerier plans to use the material to package its cheese, which will be sold by leading Swedish supermarket chain ICA (Solna; www.icagruppen.se), said Mondi.

According to information from the company, the mono-material packaging is comprised of a base web and lidding film, all of which is produced and printed by Mondi before being converted for 1 kg and 2 kg blocks of cheese by Skånemejerier. Use of the mono-material film instead of laminate consisting of different types of plastic allows the packaging to be sorted and recycled.
