Plastic and paper packaging group Mondi (Vienna / Austria; www.mondigroup.com) said its “BarrierPack Recyclable” polyethylene film has been certified as recyclable by the German institute for recyclability and product responsibility cyclos-HTP (Aachen; www.cyclos-htp.de). The institute rated Mondi’s PE film as 95% recyclable “in those areas where a suitable recycling infrastructure is in place.”
BarrierPack Recyclable is used in a range of applications – see Plasteurope.com of 20.06.2018 – including stand-up pouches for dishwasher tablets for UK supermarket chain Tesco and resealable dog food pouches for Dutch pet food producer Yarrah Organic Petfood. Mondi said that, for Tesco, switching to a fully recyclable monomaterial pouch for its dishwasher tablets meant the individual tablets could be wrapped in a water-soluble film instead of polypropylene wrapping, further reducing waste. For Yarrah, the material replaced a multilayer laminate packaging which was difficult to recycle.
