MONDI
German packaging plant officially shuttered
Almost one year after first announcing the impending closure of its plant in Lindlar / Germany (see Plasteurope.com of 21.03.2013), global paper and packaging giant Mondi (Johannesburg / South Africa; www.mondigroup.com) has shuttered the site. The plant’s production of two- and three-layered films as well as plastic barrier and seal pouches has been assumed by other Mondi group members, while the site itself, including all other properties, has been divested.
Founded in the 1930s as Nord-West Papierwerke – later Nord-West Verpackungen – Mondi predecessor Frantschach had acquired the site in 2002. Reports indicate that the closure resulted in the layoff of 142 workers.
