Phenolic resins joint venture with UPC Technology / First plant expected to start up in China in Q1 2013
Momentive Specialty Chemicals (Albany, New York / USA; www.momentive.com) has signed a joint venture agreement with Taiwan-based specialty chemicals producer UPC Technology (www.upc.com.tw) for the production of specialty phenolic resins in China.

The new jv, named Momentive Union Specialty Chemicals, will build its first manufacturing plant in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu / China, adjacent to an existing UPC Technology manufacturing site. Construction is expected to begin in early 2012, with completion and commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2013. The plant will produce specialty novolac and resole phenolic resins, sold under trade names including “Bakelite” and “Durite”, for applications including abrasives and electronics. UPC Technology is part of global conglomerate Mitac-Synnex (www.msgroup.com.tw).
