US-based thermoplastic compounds and concentrates supplier Modern Dispersions (MDI, Leominster, Massachusetts / USA; www.moderndispersions.com) has introduced a range of black masterbatches using recycled materials and containing 100% recycled carbon black from post-consumer tyres. MDI will introduce “ECOBlack” at the “K 2016” (www.k-online.de) trade fair, to be held in Düsseldorf / Germany from 19 to 26 October.
Jan Kozma, Modern Dispersions’ vice president for sales and marketing, said: “Our new offering, 'ECOBlack', provides a sustainable alternative to conventional carbon black and establishes a new benchmark in terms of quality and cost.” The company said the range complements its line of black masterbatch formulations and is a PE-based masterbatch that provides the same performance as many standard grades of carbon black.
The material offers cost savings from 5% to 10% over standard grades and can be used in many traditional applications such as film, sheet and moulded items, MDI said. The new material is used at typical masterbatch letdown ratios of between 2% and 5%.
