Denmark: Poly Recycling A/S sold / New plastics holding company
As part of its strategy to concentrate on its core business of packaging, Model Group – HQ: Model-Holding AG (CH-8570 Weinfelden) – has sold its Danish subsidiary Poly Recycling A/S (Tingvejen 2, DK-6500 Vojens). A group of investors led by Arne Christensen, md for many years, has acquired a 100% share of the plastics recycling company. Poly Recycling A/S will take in DKK 38m in turnover this year, has 40 employees and a capacity of 9,000 t/y of PE regranulate. The divested company will immediately be renamed Replast A/S.
Since announcing its intention to concentrate on its core business in 1997 (see Plasteurope.com No 8, 1997), Model Group has sold its recycling companies in Denmark and Spain. However, the parent company, Poly Recycling AG, Weinfelden, will remain in the Model group, md Martin U. Model expressly confirmed in an interview with PIE. This business is among Europe's largest plastics recycling companies.
Shares in the newly formed Replast are held by not only Arne Christensen but also a new holding company, Plastcentret, whose aim is production and development with an emphasis on recycling and waste management of plastics. The original shareholders will make individual contributions to the holding company, which will help the Danish plastics industry to do its part towards the recycling aspect of the transport packaging agreement. In this agreement, the industry assumed a part of the responsibility for Denmark's commitment to recycle at least 15% of total packaging waste. The following Danish companies are presently shareholders of Plastcentret: Borealis, Cava Plastics, Danisco Flimingo, DBI Plastics, Dudek Plast, Faerech Plast, Holmia, Joni-Emballage, Lego, Maersk Medical, Panther Plast, PLM Langeskov, Pressalit, Primo Danmark, Rosti, Superfos Packaging, Ulfoss Plastic.
