Auditing platform RecyClass (Brussels / Belgium; www.recyclass.eu) has certified “Millad NX 8000” technology from specialty chemicals and materials science company Milliken (Spartanburg, South Carolina / USA; www.milliken.com) as fully compatible with PP recycling processes in Europe. The technology is a clarifying agent used in PP containers to make the resin transparent.
Milliken pointed out that the approval applies solely to the technology; any packaging using the technology must adhere to certain conditions to be considered fully compatible with the PP recycling stream. These conditions specify that the container is made of clear PP; the density of the finished packaging is lower than 1 g/cm3; and the “Millad NX 8000” clarifying agent accounts for a maximum content of 0.4% of the package’s total weight.
Recycled material generated from the recycling of waste packaging containing its clarifying agent can be used in high-quality applications, Milliken noted.
The US company claims its “Millad NX 8000” range – including variants “Millad NX 8000E” and “Millad NX 8000 ECO”, is the leading clarifier for PP worldwide.
“Unprecedented” global demand for the clarifier prompted Milliken to announce last year that it would hike capacity by 50% at its plant in Blacksburg, South Carolina, with the extra output due online in 2020 – see Plasteurope.com of 01.04.2019.
