Milliken Chemical (Spartanburg, South Carolina / USA; www.millikenchemical.com) has introduced a nucleating agent for injection moulded HDPE applications. The additive has a crystalline orientation that improves the mechanical performance of HDPE to levels approaching those of PP impact copolymers and offers moulders additional processing options.

“Hyperform” HPN 210 M nucleator has been developed for packaging and material handling applications. These include waste containers, totes, crates and pallets. Testing carried out to the ASTM D790-00 standard showed increased stiffness of up to 50% in HDPE nucleated with the agent compared with standard HDPE and heat distortion temperatures improved by 10°C - 40°C, determined by ASTM D648-07, the company said.
