Range of heat-tolerant compostable resins introduced / Focus on packaging and durable products
Bioplastics producer MGP (Atchison, Kansas / USA; www.mgpingredients.com) has introduced the “Terratek” BD range of heat-tolerant biodegradable composite resins. Applications for the material include a variety of injection-moulded industrial and consumer products such as disposable packaging materials and containers as well as durable products that benefit from being compostable at the end of their lifespan, the company said.
The resins are produced from a blend of wheat- and corn-based products, as well as other compostable materials. Natural components derived from renewable grain sources make up the majority of the resins’ content by weight. They are available as smooth, white pellets that can be easily processed, shaped and coloured by finished goods manufacturers.
In addition to the new resins, the company produces and markets “Terratek” SC, a starch-based bioplastic, and “Terratek” WC, made from a combination of fine wood particles and recycled plastic materials.
