DIN/ISO 9001 approval was granted to the Kirchberg factory of Metzeler Plastics GmbH (PO Box 1760, D-52407 Jülich) in November 1993. The business area "thermoplastics" produces sheeting products from PS, SB, ABS, PE, PP, PPO, PMMA and PC under the name of "Metzoplast", and Metzeler considers itself one of the largest manufacturers in Europe. The other branch is the business area "Tacon" (PO Box 1653, D-87686 Memmingen) which manufactures laminated sheets from polyester resin. The thermoplastic products are used in the most varied of applications, for example as filter plants in large chimneys, in chemical container construction, in automobile and furniture industries and in the sanitary and sport article sectors. In 1993 the 200 employees at Metzeler achieved a turnover of DM 70m for manufactured products, and the 55 employees of the business area laminated sheeting contributed DM 25m of the total turnover. About 25% of the manufactured products are exported world-wide, and up to 50% of the laminated sheeting. The company has capital of DM 5.7m and belongs to British Vita plc (Middleton, GB-Manchester M24 2DB). Wolfgang Voss and Frank J. Eaton are directors.
