After more than 30 years, Erhard Wienkamp, operative MD at Messe Düsseldorf (www.messe-duesseldorf.com) and long-time division manager of the K trade fair, will retire on 31 July 2024 at the age of 66. Marius Berlemann will take on the position as of 1 August 2024.
Wienkamp started at Messe Düsseldorf in 1993. He took over project management for the world’s leading trade fair before later heading up the international division.
Since 2002, the economics graduate has been responsible for Messe Düsseldorf’s international trade fair business as divisional director and authorised signatory. In January 2020, Wienkamp was appointed to the operational management of the trade fair company as head of K, responsible among other things for the Plastics & Rubber portfolio.
Messe Düsseldorf has grown massively in the 30 years he has been with the company: the portfolio now includes 73 foreign events, in addition to 25 trade fairs at the home venue.
“Erhard Wienkamp didn’t wait for the world to come to Düsseldorf, he went out into the world and carried the reputation of Messe Düsseldorf and the entire city to other countries and continents. His work has shaped the company like no one else’s,” said Wolfram Diener, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, in honour of Wienkamp’s commitment.
His successor, 38-year-old Berlemann, has been working for the trade fair company for 13 years, most recently in management positions in China.
