MBA POLYMERS
Start-up of plastics recovery plant in UK
MBA Polymers (Richmond, California / USA; www.mbapolymers.com) has opened a new plastics recovery plant in Worksop, Nottinghamshire / UK. The plant, which is the company’s second in Europe and fourth worldwide, has an initial processing capacity of 60,000 t/y and can be expanded to 80,000 t/y. An inauguration ceremony was held on 1 October.
MBA Polymers said the new facility will recover plastics mainly from automotive shredder residue sourced from its joint venture partner European Metal Recycling (Warrington / UK; www.emrltd.com) – see Plasteurope.com of 06.02.2009.
Michael Biddle, president of MBA Polymers, said the company’s plants consume less energy than traditional petrochemical-based plants to produce the same quantity and type of plastic. “And for every tonne of virgin plastic we replace, we can save two to three tonnes of the greenhouse gas CO2 from entering the atmosphere”, he added.
