New developments and products
New Addiplast materials for perfect surfaces
At Fakuma 2003, compounding specialist Addiplast (F-43620 Saint-Pal-de-Mons; www.addiplast.com) presented PP and PA based effect-dyed compounds. New products also included PP compounds described as providing PC-like properties and a selection of flame-retardant PP and PA polymers with UL94 classification V-2 and V-0.

Polykemi offers nanoparticle-reinforced PA6
Swedish speciality chemicals producer Polykemi AB (S-27121 Ystad; www.polykemi.se) has developed a new solution for the packaging industry. “Scanacomp PA”, a nanoclay-reinforced PA6 grade, is reported to have “extremely good barrier properties working in combination with high impact strength”.

Albion Colours with new fluorescent shades of red
Albion Colours Ltd. (UK-Halifax HX1 4PN; www.albionchemicals.co.uk) has developed two red, fluorescent “Kenawax” grades. The products are particularly suited for colouring PS-GP, ABS, PMMA, PC and PET. “Fluorescent Red 4GFP” is a brilliant red shade without an orange hue while “Fluorescent Red 2BFP” has a bluish-pink tinge. Both colorants are reported to have a minimised odour emission during production.

Ticona presents new line of flame-retardant “Celanex“
The new “Celanex” line of flame-retardant PBT pellets introduced by Ticona GmbH (D-65451 Kelsterbach; www.ticona.com) features two unfilled grades and three glass-fibre reinforced grades with improved processability. The new grades are suitable for plugs, housings and switches in electric/electronic applications.

PolyOne with new compounds and blends
PolyOne (Cleveland, Ohio/USA; www.polyone.com) has presented a wide array of new products. “Bergamid PA/sPS” is a blend with high strength, high absorption and good flow properties. The colorants and additives of the “onColour HL” range of products are highly concentrated to minimise the amount of added material. The all-rounder “Nanoblend” is claimed to improve the mechanical properties and the heat resistance of a wide range of compounds while “Ecomass” (6-11 g/cm3) and “Gravitech” (2-6 g/cm3) are the names for non-toxic additive blends with a high density used to replace lead. Under licence from Ciba, PolyOne also developed a flame-retardant for thick-wall PP applications. This additive does not react with light stabilisers and is also available as part of a so-called “SmartBatch”, a blend of flame-retardants, light stabilisers and colorants.
