New engineering plastic vulcanisates at DuPont
DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com) has developed a new class of engineering thermoplastic vulcanisates (ETPV) for use in high performance automotive and industrial applications. According to the US chemical group, the new material extends the range of applications for thermoplastic elastomers, especially those requiring increased resistance to heat and fluids. Initially, two grades will be avaialbe, a 90 Shore-A at the higher end of the hardness range and a 60 shore-A at the lower end. Both can be had in standard and heat-stabilised versions.
Thai Petrochemical with laser markable ABS grades
German plastics distributor ClickPlastics (D-67456 Böhl- Iggelheim; www.clickplastics.com) has begun marketing laser markable ABS grades produced by Thai Petrochemical Industries (TPI, Bangkok; www.tpigroup.co.th). TPI says the polymer grades have been approved for use in household products, writing utensils and automotive applications.
Rhodia EP with new PA for side wall trim
The new “Technyl A 238P5 M25” PA grade developed by Rhodia Engineering Plastics (F-69192 Saint-Fons Cedex; www.rhodia-ep.com) for automotive vertical side wall trim and chassis components is said to be suitable for inline painting and resistant to temperatures of up to 200 °C.
Goodyear with new masterbatch for TPE compounds
Goodyear Chemical (F-92500 Ruiel Malmaison; www.goodyearchemical.com) has introduced a new masterbatch under the name “Serel”, that it says can improve the properties of TPE compounds based on SEBS and EPDM TPV. In the process, solution styrene butadiene (S-SBR) rubber has been embedded in a thermoplastic matrix. The masterbatch is said to improve oil resistance, sealing properties and wet adhesion, while at the same time reducing cycle time. Potential applications are in tools and sports equipment as well as sealants for pipes and windows.
Atofina´s new online service for functional polyolefins
French chemical group Atofina (F-92091 Paris La Defense; www.atofina.com) has launched a new technical online platform, www.specialchem.com, for adhesives and sealants designed to simplify the development of polyolefns. Products featured include binders of the families “Orevac”, “Lotryl” and “Lotader” for coextrusion to produce packaging materials. Users can submit questions on specific applications and receive advice and suggestions for typical formulations.
DuPont Dow widens “Nordel” portfolio
DuPont Dow Elastomers (Wilmington, Delaware / USA; www.dupont-dow.com), has widened its range of “Nordel MG” products to include the two new high viscosity grades “46140” and “47100”. Typical applications are self-sealing profiles for automotive and construction. Nordel MG 46140 was developed for self-sealing profiles and hoses with a high filler content. The semi-crystalline EPDM grade 47100 is said to be especially suitable for use in industrial hoses and extruded profiles.
