Nova Chemicals adds to “Zylar” line
Whether it is used for household articles or medical devices, the new acrylic copolymer “Zylar 631” from Canada´s Nova Chemicals (CH-1700 Fribourg; www.novachem.com) is said to offer a particularly favourable combination of strength and clarity. The material is designed to serve as an alternative to PC and clear ABS in injection moulding applications. Moulders and component designers can also cut production costs by up to 40% through savings on energy and labour costs, says the company.

Lugand Aciers with inexpensive copper moulds
Production costs for a mould made of a special heat-treated copper alloy are claimed to be as much as 17% lower, compared with a conventional injection mould made of steel. Lugand Aciers (F-01105 Oyonnax; www.lugand-aciers.com) a manufacturer of standard mould units, says the material´s hardness and thermal conductivity are comparable to those of steel. Apart from that, it says, cycle times can be reduced by up to 40%.

J&A has new high heat resistant PC/ABS blend
A new addition to the portfolio of J&A Plastics (D-47800 Krefeld; www.j-a.de) is a PC/ABS blend from the “Anja” product line with high heat resistance, claimed to comply with the flame retardant regulations of UL 94 VO at 1.6 mm. At this year´s “Fakuma” (www.fakuma-messe.de), to be held from 18-22 October at Friedrichshafen / Germany, the company will present the full range of its own Anja compounds as well as those from the portfolio of its Spanish cooperation partner – the polyamide specialists Grupo Repol (E-12550 Almazora; www.repol.com) – and its distribution partners.

Basell develops PP copolymer for food packaging
Basell (NL-2132 MS Hoofddorp; www.basell.com) has developed a new PP random copolymer especially to meet the increasing demand for highly transparent blown films. The material, “Clyrell RC 1314”, is said to have a unique combination of optical properties, high stiffness, low odour levels and good heat-sealing performance for laminated film and transparent packaging film applications.
