German electro-mechanical and electronic switches and switching systems manufacturer Marquardt (Rietheim-Weilheim; www.marquardt.com) has inaugurated a new 22,000 m2 plant in Tunis / Tunisia. Investment cost of the facility, which took 15 months to complete and will employ about 1,500 workers, were not disclosed.
Marquardt has been producing in Tunisia since 1991, but the new building marks the first time it is not renting a production space. During the opening ceremony, management board speaker Harald Marquardt said while the company’s local activities previously centred on assembly operations, the new facility in the capital’s El Agba industrial area manufactures assembly equipment for international customers and also engages in development projects.
