With an area of 12,068 hectares, Antwerp is considered the biggest port area in the world, and the plastics hub of Europe, says PlasticsEurope (Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticseurope.org). With this in mind, the plastics value chain came together in the Port of Antwerp to formalise a collaboration, by signing the "Operation Clean Sweep" pledge (see Plasteurope.com of 10.11.2017).
The Port of Antwerp authority (www.portofantwerp.com), the Belgian Federation for Chemistry and Life Sciences Industries essenscia (Brussels; www.essenscia.be), the Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of Commerce and Industry Voka (Brussels; www.voka.be), and PlasticsEurope confirmed their intent to battle pellet loss and collaborate at each step of the production and handling process of plastic pellets. This includes transport, logistic operations and shipping. The plastics industry is emphasising its commitment to this collaboration and intends to support the port authority in its efforts to monitor the area for hotspots of pellet accumulation.
