MARCHESINI
Thermoforming centre planned near Modena / Activities to be pooled
The family-run Marchesini (Pianoro / Italy; www.marchesini.com) group plans to build a thermoforming centre near Modena, on the site of its subsidiary Farcon (Carpi / Italy), at a cost of around EUR 15m. It also intends to bundle all group activities in Carpi on a 10,000 m² site. In a recent announcement, Marchesini spoke of "completely integrating" Farcon – until now, an independently run thermoforming machinery manufacturer – into the group. It remains to be seen whether the move will result in job losses.
In 2007, Marchesini Group posted sales of around EUR 150m with a workforce of 1,000. The group comprises several filling and packaging companies for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. Pharmaceuticals account for the lion's share of the business, some 85%. In addition, Marchesini manufactures automatic thermoforming lines for the production of secondary packaging for ampoules, vials, syringes and needles, as well as the corresponding cavities, through the Farcon and CNC (Carpi / Italy) corporations.
