MAKROFORM
Six-layer PC sheet available in new widths / Increasing demand for heat insulation uses
Makroform (D-64293 Darmstadt; www.makroform.com), the sheet manufacturing joint venture of Bayer (www.bayer.com) and Röhm (www.roehm.de) is introducing a new long- life six-layer polycarbonate sheet in widths of 980 and 1,200 millimetres. This is in addition to the sheet launched in January in widths of 2,100 millimetres. As in the standard width, the new sheet will come in a thickness of 16 or 20 millimetres and will be available in transparent and opal white.
The six-layer sheet is profiting from strong demand for heat insulation materials, and Guenther Winnert, Makroform segment manager for building and construction, says its success “is exceeding all our expectations.” Compared with standard sheet of the same thickness, the new “Makrolon” sheet is claimed to save up to 25% energy – the equivalent of five litres of heating oil per square metre per year or 5.5 cubic metres of natural gas per square metre. Thanks to its light weight, the sheet can be easily installed even on large surfaces, Makroform says.
