US group launches masterbatches for PET packaging

US polyolefin group LyondellBasell (LYB, Houston, Texas; www.lyondellbasell.com) said it has launched Polybatch Effects Frost, a new line of masterbatches for PET packaging that imparts a frosted, matte effect.

The company said its new masterbatch is FDA-compliant for food and cosmetic packaging and is designed for high-end packaging.

Available in two styles, the masterbatches can be used with existing colours, require no tool changes, and can be seamlessly integrated with existing injection stretch blow moulding processes, the company said.

It added that its Polybatch Effect Frost masterbatches reduce the appearance of recycled PET (rPET) and maintains recyclability with NIR sorting compatibility.
