Acquisition of Solvay Engineered Polymers completed / Expansion of PP compounding business
LyondellBasell (Rotterdam / The Netherlands; www.lyondellbasell.com) has completed its acquisition of Solvay Engineered Polymers (SEP, Auburn Hills, Michigan / USA) – see Plasteurope.com of 30.11.2007. The business segment, which represented 2% of the Solvay group’s total sales of EUR 9.6 bn, will be integrated into LyondellBasell’s “Advanced Polyolefins” unit (www.apo.lyondellbasell.com).
SEP, which produces thermoplastic polyolefins (trade names “Dexflex”, “Sequel” and “Indure”) primarily for the automotive industry, is active mainly in the US, where it has production facilities at Mansfield and Grand Prairie, Texas. The company has marketing and distribution centres in Europe and China.
According to Paul Yeates, senior vice president for advanced polyolefins at LyondellBasell, the buy represents a “significant step” towards further developing the Dutch-based company's global polypropylene compounding strategy. The combined North American business will be headed by Steve Dwyer, vice president of LyondellBasell's Automotive Americas unit.
