LONZA FOLIEN
Increased capacity for triacetate films
After selling its cellulose diacetate business (see Plasteurope.com 10, 1997), Lonza-Folien GmbH (Weidstr. 2, D-79576 Weil am Rhein) has been concentrating on expanding its production capacity for the more high-grade triacetate films. One of the features of these films, which are produced and distributed under the brand name "Triphan", is their excellent optical transparency. They are dimensionally stable up to 160 °C, but can also be exposed to temperatures of up to 180 °C for short periods. Up to now, the "Triphan" film division at Lonza produced mainly photographic and optical films. The expansion of capacity now means that "Triphan" films of up to 0.020mm thickness can be produced, thus closing the gap in the area of thin films. Applications include trick films, release films for the production of printed circuit boards, basic films for LCDs, films for sunglasses and ski goggles, colour films and other optical applications. If required, "Triphan" films can be made ultraviolet light-absorbent.
