Truck freight rates in Germany plummet

In Q3 2019, the fall in rates for truck freight in Germany was more extreme than in any quarter since 2009 after the financial crisis. On average, transport prices for road freight fell by 1.79% compared with the previous quarter (132.09 points) to 129.72 points. This is shown by the quarterly “VR index” published by the “VerkehrsRundschau” (VR), a magazine for the logistics industry. This means that the economic weakness in Germany is now also making itself felt in the transport segment.
Nevertheless, the numbers are still higher than for the same quarter in 2018. The reason is probably the increase in toll charges put into place from 1 January 2019 – see Plasteurope.com of 30.11.2018.
