Trading in plastics futures to cease
Citing lacking volumes and open interest, the London Metal Exchange (LME, London / UK; www.lme.com) has decided to delist its plastics contracts. Trading will cease on 29 April 2011. Commenting on the decision, LME chief executive Martin Abbott said: “The Exchange and its committee members have put considerable effort into this endeavour to bring transparency and hedging facilities to the plastic business. But we must recognise that these efforts have not attracted sufficient volume of business and the time has come to bring this activity to a close.”

Current open interest for all plastics contracts is 228 lots, out to March 2011.
