AMI: New European polyethylene film report
A new report from market research group Applied Market Information (AMI, Bristol / UK; www.amiplastics.com) details the changing structure and dynamics of the European polyethylene film extrusion industry. In its "Guide to Polyethylene Film Extrusion in Europe" the consultant reports that the overall number companies involved in the sector remains at around 1,300 sites but there have been some notable shifts in production with variations across Europe, particularly the UK which has seen an 11% drop in the number of companies operating. France and Italy have also reported capacity drops due to market conditions.
AMI also shows that British Polythene Industries (BPI) is no longer the largest PE film extruding group. According to its research, German group RKW emerged as the largest group in volume terms in 2005 with an estimated throughput of 325,500 t compared with BPI´s 321,500 t. However, AMI points out that BPI´s turnover remains the largest – also see Plasteurope.com Web of 23.03.2007.
