Fresh food packaging manufacturer Linpac (Featherstone / UK; www.linpac.com) is making a multi-million euro investment in technology at its site in Pontivy / France, which will manufacture a range of multi-layer, next generation top lidding films.
The investment in a production line at the site will allow the business to drive the growth of its lightweight lidding film and continue to develop its ultra-light, resistant barrier flexibles for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) where, traditionally, heavy gauge film has been used.
Erwan Cadoret, business manager barrier films at Linpac, said the production technology allows the company to produce a broad range of high barrier films at 25 µm with enhanced anti-fog and print properties, providing improved performance, while retaining functionality.
Linpac is also collaborating with German rigid films producer Klöckner Pentaplast (kp, Montabaur; www.kpfilms.com), to create a resource efficient modified atmosphere pack for fresh perishable food and liquids. The design combines an APET rigid base web from kp with a Linpac “Lintop” PET HB barrier lidding film.
The mono PET pack has been developed to protect and preserve cured and cooked meat, cheese, fresh pasta, convenience food and liquids.
