An oxo-degradable grade of PE cling film suitable for use with any food product is now available from Linpac Packaging (Knottingly / UK; www.linpac.com). Trade-named “OxoLIN”, the film has been developed, says Linpac, in response to retailer and consumer concerns over packaging waste. OxoLIN has the same properties as the company’s existing range of cling films and complies with relevant EU food-contact directives, as well as packaging and packaging waste directives. It is formulated with natural additives that allow it to break down slowly into fragments of molecular chains that can be assimilated by micro-organisms when exposed to light and heat. The film has a shelf life of over 12 months but will degrade after use in one to four years.
“The food industry has been asking for a degradable film to meet environmental concerns,” says Ralph Mueller, country manager for Germany at Linpac Packaging. “The natural additives have been carefully selected to ensure the performance of the film is not affected.” Available in either mother rolls or refill rolls, OxoLIN offers excellent clarity and cling performance. It is resistant to tearing.
