Continued strong growth in plastics segment / “Boom year” for the manmade fibres group
Lenzing Plastics (www.lenzing-plastics.com), part of manmade fibres producer Lenzing (Lenzing / Austria; www.lenzing.com), has reported another strong rise in sales for 2007, which it described as a “boom year.” The plastics business, defined as a “strategic growth platform,” increased sales by more than 42% year-on-year to around EUR 133m, driven by four acquisitions at the end of 2006. This increased its share of the group’s EUR 1.26 bn consolidated revenues from around 9% to over 10.5%.
The Lenzing plastics segment specialises in thermoplastics, PTFE fibres and yarns, short-cut filaments and precursors for carbon fibres. Segment EBIT remained virtually unchanged at EUR 9m (EUR 8.9m in 2006) but headcount soared from around 350 to nearly 1,000 as a result of the acquisitions. Lenzing Plastics now has six production facilities in Europe and the US.
