LENZING
1995: Good results for films and packaging tapes / Expanding PTFE business
Lenzing's (Lenzing AG, A-4860 Lenzing) operating results for plastics in 1995 are similar to the record in 1994. Sales were increased to approximately ATS 580m (1994: ATS 534m), in 1995. Total production amounted to 11,601 t, which was only slightly below the 1994 record mark of 11,701 t. Despite a tight European market, the company largely succeeded in maintaining its market position in weaving and raschel films and packaging tapes. Special films managed to achieve welcome growth rates of 10-30% in the cable industry and for decorative applications. Investments to improve product quality are beginning to pay off in connection with monoaxially oriented polypropylene (MOPP) film – primarily for packaging tapes –, which is a multi-year market-launch project.
Sales volumes of PTFE products for sealing and packaging yarns by Lenzing expanded by approximately 20% in 1995. Paste-extrusion products for weaving and sewing yarns and dental floss gained an extra 50%. For reasons of capacity, sales of paste films could only be increased by 8%. An extensive investment programme of approximately ATS 100m was initiated in 1995 in order to take advantage of the company's opportunities on a growing market for PTFE products. The programme is expected to be completed by mid 1996.
