LEIS POLYTECHNIK
Launching complete series of “Thermoforce” thermally conductive compounds / Metal replacement
Leis Polytechnik (Ramstein-Miesenbach / Germany; www.leis-polytechnik.de) has broadened its “Thermoforce” range of thermally conductive compounds, launching a complete series ahead of the upcoming “Fakuma” industry fair (www.fakuma-messe.de), held in Friedrichshafen / Germany from 13-17 October. Designed as metal substitutes, the high-performance compounds offer the same thermal conductivity as metal while also displaying all the benefits of thermally conductive polymers, the company said.
By adding or changing basic polymers, fillers and additives, Thermoforce’s thermal conductivity and thus its heat elimination can be increased. The material’s formability also allows a lot of freedom for design, Leis Polytechnik said, adding that the range can be injection moulded. The compounds can either be electrically conductive or electrically insulating, depending on what properties the customer desires. These variations are made possible by the combination of basic polymer, additives and an innovative processing technology. In addition, the grades allow for integral functionality, meaning a part produced with them can be both electrically insulating and heat-eliminating.
Key applications include parts where metal poses a problem, such as insulation. Other potential markets are E&E, automotive, mechanical engineering and LED.
Leis Polytechnik said it is also capable of producing special grades suitable for food contact or in specific colours.
