Lego (Billund / Denmark; www.lego.com) has created several branches of support during the coronavirus pandemic. The company recently announced that it has six dedicated moulding machines at its plant in Billund to manufacture safety visors for Danish healthcare workers. The aim is to produce more than 13,000 visors each day, with the possibility to scale up to 58,000/d. Similar plans are in place for Hungary and then Lego’s other global plants.

To support families impacted by Covid-19, the toy manufacturer is also addressing the needs of children with two initiatives. The first is a USD 50m donation to help “urgently reach crisis-affected children with essential supplies and provide support to continue learning through play.” The company has also created #letsbuildtogether videos providing, among other things, play and learning content for children and parents.

In separate news, Lego announced the upcoming opening of a fifth flagship store in China. The plan sees its new store in Shenzhen, Guangdong, opening in the second half of 2020. Its other stores in China are in Shanghai (2), Beijing and Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The Chinese market has been a focus of the group for several years (see Plasteurope.com of 16.03.2020).
