Toy manufacturer Lego Group (Billund / Denmark; www.lego.com) is to expand its London / UK office and create a “Lego Campus” at its headquarters in Billund.
London is home to one of the company’s main offices outside Denmark and the planned expansion will create more room for current employees working there and provide capacity for potential future growth. The additional 1,800 m² will be located in Plough Place, adjacent to the existing office in New Fetter Lane in central London.
The first employees moved into the existing 2,680 m² office in 2014. Presently, 275 are based at the site. Employees are expected to move into the new office areas during the fourth quarter of 2017.
On 3 February, the company broke the ground on one of its largest construction projects in Billund that will accommodate up to 2,000 employees and include 52,000 m² of office space surrounded by a public park. Work on the “Lego Campus” office complex, first announced in July 2016, is expected to take four years, with employees moving in during 2019.
Bali Padda, Lego Group president and CEO, said: “The project represents an important step in our growth journey and makes room for future growth in Billund. It is an expression of our future, but also keeps us firmly connected with our heritage in Billund, where carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen founded our company 85 years ago. The Lego employees in Billund all contribute to our efforts to bring great play experiences to children all over the world, and that is why our continued investment is both natural and important to our company.”
