Private equity company Koinos acquires majority stake in Italian thermoformer / Expansion of capacities planned

Italian private equity company Koinos Capital (Milan; www.koinoscapital.com) has acquired a majority stake in Lapiplast (Barco di Bibbiano, Italy; www.lapiplast.com), a specialist in vacuum thermoforming. The transaction was completed for an undisclosed amount. Dimitri Campanini from the founding family secured additional shares. The previous shareholders, Vaifro Campanini, Piero Campanini, and Lorenzo Baldi, have sold their stakes.

With this investment, Koinos Capital plans to lay the foundation for further acquisitions in a growth segment, explained CEO Marco Morgese. He estimates that the thermoforming market currently has a volume of EUR 1.5 bn and is expected to grow by an average of 4% over the next five years. Accordingly, Koinos Capital intends to expand Lapiplast’s production capacities and strengthen the company’s international market position through acquisitions. In addition to Italy, the focus of potential acquisitions will be on Spain, France, and the US.

Founded in 1989, Lapiplast has three plants and 80 employees. The company manufactures plastic components for various customer industries such as commercial and special vehicles, agriculture, logistics, mechanical engineering, and medical technology. The vacuum thermoforming specialist primarily processes materials such as polystyrene, ABS, PMMA, polycarbonate, and polyethylene, and generated an EBITDA of EUR 3 mn in 2023.
