With a follow-up investment in Biofiber Tech Sweden (BFT, Stockholm; www.biofibertech.com), K.D. Feddersen (Hamburg; www.kdfeddersen.com) says it is supporting the further development of the start-up in which it acquired a minority stake last year. Financial details were not disclosed.

Founded in 2016 by Eric Zhang, the Swedish company markets FibraQ brand chemically modified wood fibres and wood fibre compounds for plastics applications that it says can be processed by injection moulding, extrusion, thermoforming, and 3D printing. The fresh capital – by other investors, including Swedish venture capital firm Almi Invest GreenTech – is expected to enable Biofiber Tech to expand production and hire more employees. The size of the investments were not provided.

Further cooperation with K.D. Feddersen is to focus on sales and marketing for FibraQ and compounds made of the materials, contract compounding, and product development projects with Feddersen Group subsidiaries Akro-Plastic (Niederzissen, Germany; www.akro-plastic.com) and its branch Bio-Fed (Cologne, Germany; www.bio-fed.com), and K.D. Feddersen Distribution.

Recently, Biofiber Tech and the Feddersen group presented what was said to be the world’s first full-size, 3D-printed kayak made from recycled plastic compounds reinforced with wood fibres at the Chinaplas trade fair.
