KUMHO MITSUI
Expansion of MDI capacity in Korea / Growing demand from Korean manufacturing transplants
Kumho Mitsui Chemicals (KMCI, Seoul / Korea) is increasing production capacity for the polyurethane feedstock MDI at its Yeosu City / Korea site by 45,000 t/y to 200,000 t/y. The new capacity is planned to be on stream in January 2013.
The joint venture of Mitsui Chemicals (Tokyo / Japan; www.mitsuichem.com) and Korea’s Kumho Petrochemicals, itself part of the Kumho Asiana Group (Seoul; www.kumhoasiana.com/kumho_en) said the capacity upgrade will strengthen KMCI’s current position as Korea’s leading MDI manufacturer and a global player. The company cites “growing demand” for MDI due to the overseas expansion of Korean manufacturers of automobile interiors, insulation and construction materials.
