KRUPP CORPOPLAST
PET bottles: Seven stretch blow moulding machines for Coca-Cola / 20,000 bottles/h
Within the last twelve months, Krupp Corpoplast Maschinenbau GmbH (Meiendorfer Str. 203, D-22145 Hamburg) has installed and commissioned seven high-performance stretch blow moulding machines for PET bottles at Coca-Cola. Two “Blomax 16” machines – i.e. machines equipped with 16 blowing stations – were shipped to Coca-Cola bottling plants in Austria, and another two to Switzerland. Two more “Blomax 16”, one “Blomax 10” and a “Premax 48” injection moulding machine for the production of PET preforms were exported to Romania. The stretch blow moulding machines can produce nine different bottles ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 litres with an output rate of 1,250 2-litre Coca-Cola bottles per hour/station. With 16 stations, this corresponds to an output of 20,000 bottles per hour.
The entire order was looked after by Cola-Cola Beverages Central Europe, Vienna. What clinched the sale for Krupp Corpoplast was its ability to satisfy four important criteria: the favourable price-performance ratio of the machines, their high production capacity, the short downtimes for changing over from one bottle size to another and, last but not least, the machine control system which permits highly accurately setting of all process parameters without any need for manual intervention.
Hans-Willy Scholl, who is responsible for selecting the machines to be used by Coca-Cola Beverages, commented on the handling of the entire project by saying, “we were impressed by the speed with which Krupp Corpoplast commissioned the machines. They were producing optimal quality at full output in next to no time. We are also very satisfied with the replacement parts service. In Summer, our blow moulding machines work seven days a week and we cannot afford any downtimes. Using the computer-controlled system, changeover from one size of bottle to another is excellent. We are currently working with Krupp Corpoplast on the development of an improved changeover system for the blowing moulds.”
In Autumn 1999, Coca-Cola Beverages ordered another high-performance stretch blow moulding machine, which will be delivered in February 2000 to the plant in Zagreb/ Croatia.
